Here’s some food for thought for today…
- You get a flu shot to prevent getting sick – should the same logic apply to vaccinating cows against e.coli? Or should consumers be insisting on better, safer processing methods and cows not fed on corn and soy?
- So what exactly can you do with a 15-year-old cheddar? Pair it with a nice wine or beer – don’t cook with it.
- Why so much extra space in the bag? Manufacturers’ various explanations as to why there’s so much air in the package.
- Do the holidays play havoc with your hips? This slideshow of suspect foods shows what to avoid. I take umbrage with the inclusion of fruitcake, though. They aren’t all full of crap.
- And if you’re a sucker for punishment, here’s some more foods to avoid because they’re not “clean” – that is they’re full of pesticides or are unsustainable. (But they all taste better with a sprinkling of paranoia on top.)
- That familiar old KitKat bar will be going Fair Trade – in Ireland and the UK at least.
- In the US, there’s still lots of resistance to smoking bans in bars, and with fines of only $25 in some places, bar owners find it’s worth it to pay the fine and let the smokers light up.
- The not so virtuous greens – shoppers who buy organic food and “green” products are more likely to steal.
